Valentine’s Day is less then a couple of weeks away, and you may find yourself feeling stumped when it comes to getting your guy that perfect gift. Let’s face it ladies, men can be pretty difficult to shop for. Well you can all stop scratching your heads because I’ve taken some time to find some suitable gift ideas that may be your solution to this year’s Valentine’s Day dilemma. Some are gifts that I have given or received, and others popped up during my research. Check out Fashion Swain’s guide to discover some creative yet personal gift ideas this Valentine’s Day:
1. Name a star after that special someone using the International Star Registry.
I have received as well as given this as a gift and it’s one of my favorite gift ideas. You can actually name a real star after someone with this star naming kit. There are several kit packages to choose from starting at $54.00. You get an official certificate, personalized sky chart, and a letter of congratulations for the recipient. The other kit packages offer more options as you upgrade. This is such an intimate and meaningful gift, I recommend using the International Star Registry to everyone for Valentine’s Day.
2. Make him a gift basket.
I found some different masculine basket ideas on a website called Darling Doodles. Click the link to draw some inspiration to create an amazing basket of your own this Valentine’s Day. I have a similar step by step article that I wrote on how to put wine baskets together HERE. You can follow the same steps, and substitute the actual items according to what your boyfriend or husband likes.
3. Create a photo gift.
I love this idea. You can have your favorite picture of the both of you printed on mousepads, mugs, calendars, magnets and endless other items to create the perfect personalized gift. I recently created a mousepad on Vista Print for someone as a birthday gift and I was excited to see how great it turned out! The shipping was rather quick too!
4. Give him a laser projection keyboard.
If your other half happens to be computer savy like my husband is, this would be a great option. It’s a laser projection keyboard and it’s very small in size, yet projects a keyboard onto any surface. It’s compatible with any bluetooth enabled device making it convenient to work from almost anywhere. I found one on UncommonGoods for $150. It’s definitely a possibility if you have the means.
5. Pick up some scratch off lottery tickets.
This idea works for just about anyone at anytime. Who wouldn’t want the chance to win money? Slip some scratch offs into their Valentine’s Day card, gift basket, or pop them next to their dinner plate just before you dine. Convenience stores and supermarkets usually have special themed tickets for holidays including Valentine’s Day so why not head to your nearest store? You never know…you could win!
6. Surprise him with Apple TV.
My husband loves movies and he loves Netflix. We both do. We purchased Apple TV a few months ago and we love it. You can access a wide variety of movies, TV shows, music, sports, and even photos. It’s super convenient because we use apple products so we can play whatever is on our iPhones and iPads on the TV using AirPlay. We purchased ours at Best Buy but you can also find them at the Apple Store and other electronic retail stores.
7. Pamper him with a monogrammed bathrobe.
I came across a website called monogrammedbathrobes.com and they have 4 different types of robes to choose from: terry, velour, waffle and microfiber. The monograms have different fonts and you can choose how many letters you would like in your monogram. Why not get him something he can just lounge in and relax? You could even create a fake massage “coupon” to go with it and give him a custom 30 minute massage.
8. Get him tickets to a concert/his favorite band.
You don’t have to go crazy trying to get tickets to the biggest shows with the biggest stars. Get him tickets to a local gig where his favorite cover band or “in house” band is playing. He can kick back, relax with a beer, and enjoy listening to the music with his arm around his number one lady!
9. If he likes to fish, try a personalized fishing lure.
There are quite a few on etsy.com. Have your personal message stamped onto a custom fishing lure for those who like to fish. Place it in a small velvet box to dress it up a bit, and hide it in his brand new tackle box you bought to go with it. (optional of course!) Either way it’s a thoughtful gift that any fisherman would love.
10. Cook and have a dinner date at home.

This year Valentine’s Day is on a Saturday and you know what that means…every restaurant will probably be packed. I don’t know about you, but my idea of a romantic dinner does not include fighting other couples for our waiter’s attention every time we need something…or screaming over noise just for the sake of some pleasant conversation. Consider staying in, cooking a nice meal, and setting the table with some simple white linens and candles. Put some flowers in a vase and decorate your table with your finest dinnerware. Play some soft music in the background and enjoy each other’s company. Anyone can make dinner reservations, but this thoughtful dinner date is all about the effort. If you know someone who is a chef or just an amazing cook you can always “hire” them to come cook for the two of you in the privacy of your own home. You get the restaurant experience without the lack of attention from the staff. Set up a time he or she will cook – let’s say an hour or two, then they can be on their way to leave you and your loved one to your privacy.
This Valentine’s Day let’s vow to pass right on by those heart shaped boxes of candy and do something a little more original for our special men. Let’s remember it’s all about the thought and effort. A little creativity can go a long way and make others feel appreciated. Wishing you all an amazing day!
