Lately I’ve incorporated iced green tea into my diet. Since all I mainly drink is water, I like to switch it up from time to time if I can with some type of healthy alternative. Green tea has so many great health benefits, and I love the way it tastes ice cold.
I start by making mine with green tea bags of course (about 10 tea bags per pitcher) and I like to add Gunter’s Pure Wildflower Honey. I do use mostly truvía (about 10 packets as well) with one tablespoon of real sugar, just to keep it from tasting too artificial. Stir the teabags, honey and sugar in hot water, and let brew for about a half hour or so.
Since I do have anxiety and panic disorder, I watch my amount of caffeine intake. I seem to do just fine with green tea, seeing as it has significantly less amounts then coffee. I tend to only drink it in the morning and afternoon, just to avoid any troublesome sleeping patterns.
Green tea contains catechins, which are antioxidants that fight and aid in the protection of cell damage. It has been shown to improve blood flow and lower cholesterol. It improves brain function and helps to keep blood sugar stable in those with diabetes. From what I’ve been seeing in my research, the hype over EGCG may or may not hold true to contributing to weight loss. Some say yes, while others say no. I say it’s good for the body and tastes great so I’ll be sticking to my current regimen.
Stay happy and healthy, and until next time…
