In one of my previous posts, I was telling you about how I eliminated gluten from my diet, due to my ongoing stomach pain, bloating, and other symptoms. It’s been just 3 weeks now going gluten free, and I’m doing better. I’m not 100% cured, but excluding gluten has gotten me on the right track to figuring out what’s been going on in my body for the past 9 years.
It’s been an adjustment, but I was able to change the way I eat for the better. The one thing I was concerned with was being able to have something to eat when I’m on the go. I exercise pretty frequently, so I tend to have to eat every few hours to keep my blood sugar stable. When I know I will be out and about for a while I like to keep snacks in my purse for when I start to feel over hungry.
I’ve made some pretty tasty discoveries along my new lifestyle journey, so today I thought I would share my 5 favorite gluten free snacks with you!
Nabisco Brown Rice Thins in White Cheddar – These taste really good! They’re baked and made from rice. The serving size is 13 rice snacks for 130 calories, which isn’t bad, and they are packed with so much flavor. I haven’t tried the plain ones yet, but I plan on picking them up at some point. I definitely recommend giving these a try.
Blue Diamond Almond Nut Thins in Cheddar Cheese – Another go-to snack for me. They’re obviously made from almonds, and rice too. You get 16 crackers for 130 calories, and 3 grams of protein. This is great for me because I try to balance every carb I eat with protein. As you may or may not know, protein slows digestion, keeping your hunger pangs at bey for longer periods of time.
Quaker Rice Crisps in Caramel Corn – These are borderline addicting. I’m a caramel lover, so these are great for when I’m craving something sweet. The serving size is 13 for 110 calories, and they are insanely crispy! Sometimes I drizzle a little chocolate syrup over them to make them a little more dessert like :)
Dare Breton Crackers Original with Flax – I love these. Pair them with Laughing Cow Creamy Swiss Light (35 calories per wedge) and voilà, you have a perfectly balanced snack. The serving size for these is 90 calories per 4 crackers.
Nature’s Path Organic Dark Chocolate Chip Granola Bars – When I started going gluten free, I really missed eating my granola bars. These are just ok…they taste a little like cardboard, but I’ll take it just to be able to eat the chocolate chips. There’s 140 calories in 1 bar. I’ll keep them on my favorites list until I can find something that tastes a little better.
All of these snacks can be found at your local supermarket. I’m hoping as I go along I will discover even more gluten free alternatives. If any of you have favorite goodies of your own that are gluten free please feel free to share them in the comments. I would love some new products to try! Here’s to staying happy and healthy!
